Selected Items from the February 28, 2022 Meeting

  • Reading of a Proclamation for the “Esteemed Veteran of Roswell” Award to Booker T. Nuckles.
    The Mayor and City Council proclaimed Booker T. Nuckles an Esteemed Veteran of Roswell for his service to both our community and our country. Please see the attached photos of Mayor Kurt Wilson presenting the award to Sgt. Nuckles.

    Nuckles was drafted in 1970 and went on to be a weapons mechanic. His duties included loading bombs onto airplanes and was certified in the two-man concept for nuclear weapons. He was stationed overseas in Thailand, responsible for weapons in C-130 gunships used in the Vietnam War. In his career, he was also stationed in Myrtle Beach, Pensacola and Louisiana. He was honorably discharged in 1973 with the rank of E4, when he joined the Air Force Reserves at Dobbins Air Force Base.

    The Nuckles family has served the country honorably. Booker’s uncle fought in WWII and was the first black Scout Master in Georgia. His brothers all served in Vietnam. Booker is a current member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Alpharetta location.

  • Approval to close Canton Street for five events in 2022.
    Action: Approved unanimously as part of the consent agenda.
    These events are the monthly Alive in Roswell events April-October; Roswell Moves on April 24; Roswell Wine Festival on Oct. 1; Youth Day Parade on Oct. 8; Running of the Turkeys on Nov. 24.

  • Approval of Budget Amendment for the Recreation and Parks Maintenance Program in the amount of $18,380.
    Action: Approved unanimously
    The booster clubs of Roswell athletics—soccer, baseball, and boys’ and girls’ gymnastics—pitched in and made a $18,380 donation to help fund field improvements.

 

  • Approval of a First Amendment to the current Site Lease Agreement between the City of Roswell and NCWPCS MPL 26 – Year Sites Tower Holdings LLC (AT&T Wireless PCS, Inc) regarding the lease term and rent increase at the Roswell Town Center Cell Tower site.
    Action: Approved unanimously
    The City and AT&T amended a lease agreement for a cell tower. The new contract has AT&T pay the City a rent of $2,500 per month.
